Last month, Delhi High Court had asked former IAF officer Gunjan Saxena to submit an affidavit on her assessment of the content shown in the movie Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl. the affidavit was submitted against the suit filed by the Centre, pursuing a decree of permanent injunction against the Dharma Productions, Netflix, and OTT platforms from broadcasting or releasing ”Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl”, without grant of no-objection certificate (NOC) from it. According to the Centre, the movie on Gunjan Saxena portrays the IAF in poor light and maligns its image as it shows that the force is gender-biased, which is not true. Ms. Saxena, in her affidavit, clarified that the movie is not a documentary but is only inspired by her life and it is clear from the two disclaimers placed at the beginning of the film which gives a message to motivate young women to join IAF. She maintained that the Air Force gave has allowed her to serve the nation, and for that, she’ll forever remain grateful. The retired officer said that she holds the utmost respect for the IAF but had no control over the exercise of “creative liberties” during the making of the movie. In her affidavit filed through advocate Aditya Dewan, she said, “The Deponent (Saxena) does not claim that everything that is shown in the movie has happened with her in her real life. However, the deponent believes that the message sought to be conveyed through the movie is to motivate young women to join the Indian Air Force and, on a broader canvas, the aim is to inspire young women to pursue their dreams, not to doubt themselves and to work hard towards their goals. ” Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is a biopic produced by Dharma Productions. It is based on the s based on the life of IAF officer Gunjan Saxena, played by Janhvi Kapoor, who was the first woman pilot to take part in the 1999 Kargil war. The court has also refused to pass any interim order on the Centre’s plea requesting to stop the movie from being screened in cinema halls. The court said that those who wanted to watch the movie might have already seen it on the OTT platform.
