Apple has not registered as the teenager’s fave this time. No doubt Apple has managed to garner huge popularity among the youth, the teens are not as amazed as their elder counterparts. Wondering why? The extra popularity, perhaps, has led to this– more than any good in gaining teen attention. The cool factor has seemingly drained out of iPhone 5 with the Samsung Galaxy S III and Microsoft’s Surface following on heels. Add to this cleverly advertising gimmicks by the latter companies and they have the teens eating out of their hand as to what cool is.In fact, industry insiders including Joeri Van den Bergh from Insites-Consulting has gone on records stating, “The Apple iPhone 5 showed very little innovation for the second straight year. After a tremendously popular redesign with the Apple iPhone 4, the Apple iPhone 4S and Apple iPhone 5 were said to have incremental changes, including a larger sized screen in this year’s model.” On the other hand, the Galaxy S III comes with loads of new features, enhanced support for the latest apps and innovations galore in terms of design. With Android on road, why would teens drive with the iOS? Marketing surveys from leading firms like Buzz Marketing reveal, “Teens are telling us Apple is done. Apple has done a great job of embracing Gen X and older [Millennials], but I don’t think they are connecting with Millennial kids. [They’re] all about Surface tablets/laptops and Galaxy. Everything moves in cycles and you can’t rest on your past glory. You’ve got to evolve to maintain relevance. Apple just needs to focus on innovation and teens will come back.” We sincerely believe that Apple would take this issue seriously and try to revamp its phone design—the next time atleast. Till then it’s the Galaxy and Surface for teens across USA.
