As of now, if a WhatsApp user sends a text message to another user with a typo, he can either ask the other user to ignore the text or ‘delete it for everyone’ so they won’t see the message. However, now it seems that the users will now be able to rectify their mistakes more conveniently with the edit option. Also, multiple reports suggest that WhatsApp had been working on the ‘edit’ feature for the past five years and now it may finally roll out the feature. WABetaInfo shared a screenshot that shows that the feature will be rolled out as a dedicated button in the top bar. It will be placed alongside the options to forward and copy text when you long-press the text.
Will users be able to identify the edited messages?
This could be a matter of concern for several WhatsApp users. WABetaInfo’s report says that there will not be an edit history to check out the previous version of edited messages most probably. But as the feature is still under development, the company might change plans before releasing the ‘edit’ feature. This means the edited messages would look just like original unedited messages. The ‘edit’ feature will first be made available for iOS and Desktop beta builds. However, users can expect the feature to come to Android beta builds as well. There is no official confirmation about when WhatsApp will roll out this feature but we will notify you as soon as it does. Do share with us what you think about the ‘edit’ feature that you may soon be able to use. Will this be beneficial for the users? If yes, then how?
